It’s fantastic in so many ways and I believe it’s a great choice for a lot of videographers who also shoot photography. Though there's problems with overheating and the codec's are a pain, it still really is an amazing all round video and photography camera. Over the course of a year using the R5, I feel I've really got to know it so here’s my pros and cons list about the camera. The Good: Amazingly capable video camera - 8K RAW, 4k 120 fps. 4K ALL-I Fantastic photography camera in terms of focus tracking, 45mp detailed sensor, 12fps burst (20 electronic) = It's a great wildlife and sports camera. Therefore Brilliant all-rounder. Maybe the Sony A1 has the edge but some of us still prefer Canon! 8K RAW is amazing. The detail is incredible. Auto focus is unbeatable as to be expected from Canon. RF Lenses are great and older EF lenses work brilliantly. The bad: Still overheating despite firmware updates. Even during photography sessions on a warm day. Battery life isn’t great but is still OK. Lack of dual native ISO = not great in low light. Not as good as the Panasonics or Sony's in low light. Third party RF lenses are pretty much unavailable and may remain so. And buying RF lenses will mean that you can't use the lenses on other platforms. The downright Ugly: Codecs are impossible to edit. Must create proxy files. It overheats taking photos in warm sun! There's a lot to gain by shooting with the R5 if you're an all round creator like me but there's a lot of nuisances also. I's still recommend it but you may not need the amount of features it has.
