Hillsborough River State Park, Thonotosassa, Florida

In this video Salvatore Vinciguerra travels to the Hillsborough River State Park in Thonotosassa, Florida. This park is located only 20-30 minutes from Busch Gardens and Downtown Tampa, Florida. Salvatore shows you the history of the park, Fort Foster Historical Site, RV campsites, and amenities that the park has to offer. The Fort Foster State Historical site is located on U.S. 301 and tours are conducted on special days and times. The historical fort was used in the 2nd Seminole War and many reenactments, living history displays, and special events are held here throughout the year. Salvatore shares with you the important history of Fort Foster and the bloody wars that occurred in Florida between the Seminole Indians and the United States of America. The Hillsborough River State Park has tent camping and 112 RV campsites with electric and water. Each site has 30 and 50 amp hookups. Some sites can accommodate rigs up to 50 feet. Campground amenities include a bath house, laundry facilities and dump station. This is a great state park for kayaking and canoeing with class II water rapids that are a part of the Hillsborough River. The Hillsborough River is one of very few blackwater rivers in the State of Florida. There are 7.3 miles of nature trails that go along the river with unique suspended bridges that enhance your hiking experience. This is a great park to bring your fishing pole and relax under the shelters and picnic pavilions along the Hillsborough River. Horseback riding, biking, geo-seeking, and many opportunities for wild-life viewing of birds, American alligators and other animals bring this park to life. Please use caution when viewing the wildlife and parents should keep out a watchful eye out on their children for alligators and other wild animals in the area. Even though you cannot swim in the river, there is a swimming pool that is open seasonally throughout the year.
