@TamarLitvot2 years ago While we are not renters, I still like learning renter-friendly techniques because sometimes I want to spruce something up but not make a permanent change.
I love painters tape - my younger daughter put up a wall of posters and photos using painters tape and 5 years later, pulling it off, there’s no residue. This wouldn’t be true of masking tape (ask me how I know!). My only concern with Drew’s method was whether the wallpaper paste could penetrate the painters tape, but he tested that so it’s all good.

@PaganTaylor2 years ago Heads up, if you leave painters tape on the wall for extended time the glue breaks down and when you go to take it off it can pull the under paint off. 122
  • @
@biancajohnson57402 years ago I love this makeover! I would be interested in knowing how well it all holds up over time, my only concern would be that the bathroom is a high moisture area. 135
  • @
@GoogleUser-wx8mw2 years ago Somehow that picture above the toilet looks like it has dimension, like it stands out in places -- very cool. Bathroom looks great. Landlord has no idea what he is missing by not letting you have your way in there; you probably would have raised the value of the property a bit, haha. ... 40

@sandrakicklighter27352 years ago Just a note, those first pieces of wood you show us cutting. It's not plywood, it's particleboard. So make sure it's sealed well because particleboard swells if it gets wet. It's a useful alternative to plywood which is more expensive but steps need to be taken to keep it safe from water. ... 544

@katherinestephens76742 years ago Truly magical....The under sink cabinet solves all of the problems inherent in a pedestal sink 71
  • @
@joannehickey70472 years ago Drew, Honey, that's MDF, otherwise known as Particle Board, which is made of sawdust and glue, dried under pressure. If you don't paint it, it absorbs every drop of moisture it can find. It's useful, but it's a very different animal from Plywood. Love your channel, so fun and inspirational. Fabulous Results! ... 3

@janetlee92812 years ago Drew…I think you are the most talented, most sweet energy person I watch on YouTube. You make my evenings so relaxing when the outside world is such a frightening mess. Your corner of the internet is a safe space filled with such good vibes. ... 65
  • @
@thepeachyhomeco.4722 years ago The Roman shade turned out so nice Drew, it just adds such a nice softness to the bathroom! Everything looks so good and $357 for all of it 🙌 you did a stellar job, per the usual! 320

@dduffy18352 years ago The wallpaper and trim idea is so clever! Love it. The only thing I would have done different is raise the vanity on small legs so that mopping around it will be easier. 203
  • @
@LisaElevateDJ2 years ago The toilet just being open the whole time is giving me the heebie jeebies. I never ever leave my toilet open, especially not when flushing! 79
  • @
@LindaKayHolevas2 years ago Oh my gosh! The shelf under the sink is EVERYTHING! I have the same sink set up in my apartment & have been wanting to figure out a way to cover the pipes. This is a brilliant idea! Thank you so much! xo 98
  • @
@annadiogo97542 years ago He really never disappoints. I love watching him and how excited he gets when it's all done also. 179
  • @
@Kissy-Suzuki2 years ago Just a tip for next time. When putting up wallpaper, you can also use cardboard, foam or paper posterboards. Just stick the wallpaper to the posterboards and nail the posterboards to the wall 40
  • @
@MsEgwene2 years ago It looks stunning!! I love the fake breadboard. And how stunning were the bones you got to work with, like the tiles and the toilet+sink, both so pretty!
For people who want to do the vanity: it's better to have legs on a vanity because it could get wet from the bottom in a bathroom and create mold issues if air can't get under there (or water damage to the structural integrity of the vanity). You could still use the exact same steps, just subtract the height of the legs from the height of the box and screw them under. They don't have to be tall to be functional. (Yes, I have learned this the hard way 😅😆)

@cccherry31338 months ago I know that this video is 1yr old. However I had to say thank you. I have a sink exactly like that one. I've been searching for a diy I can do to give me more storage and finally found you. The whole project was amazing. ... 1
  • @
@sandyfitzgerald41672 years ago Love the storage idea but I would have elevated it so the wood didn’t get damaged when washing the floor. 😊 174
  • @
@cmitchell73472 years ago Fun makeover. Was thinking you might've gone with bit more color in the beadboard. A towel is obviously needed near the sink and placing the hook where you did also allows for the towel to hide the outlet while being conveniently located. However, even if GFI, the potential for a hanging wet towel, or when reaching with wet hands/face, being over the outlet would make me nervous. ... 19

@jenwylie40932 years ago I'm curious how the painters tape will hold up over time. My mother in law was going through her living room putting painters tape on the nicks and dings, intending on getting one of her kids to paint up the imperfections. She had it up for months. The tape ended up ripping off the paint under it since it was up for so long. You clearly made the bathroom a better space. Hopefully it cleans up easily when they are ready to move. :) ... 17

@nerdquinn2 years ago Never thought of adding trim with the command velcro strips! That's blowing my mind!! 1
  • @
@NinaRibenaMixedMedia2 years ago Beautifully done. I am a landlord and I cannot imagine that anyone in their right mind would want them to take this down at the end of their tenancy. I love it ❤️ 37
  • @
@ffiggy2 years ago This is probably my favorite bathroom makeover I've seen! Loving the airy, light modern take on traditional elements! so timeless 45
  • @
@femaidenyoga97002 years ago The painters tape underneath the wallpaper - genius 1
  • @
@pluckypurcell48792 years ago I love the Roman shade so much, I went and looked her tutorial up and am definitely going to try it. Also, painters tape shouldn't be left on anything longer than 14 days because it can rip up paint, not to mention it's nearly impossible to get the residue off. Plus, humidity can loosen it and mold can start to grow on it. I learned both the hard way. ... 56
  • @
@alainalaniedougherty91612 years ago If this were my space I'd have painted the wallpaper to match the green tile and done a maximalist art effect over the toilet, wall by the door, and wall by the window. I love this alternative look and hope the home renters did! ... 27
  • @
@rosekisiel33832 years ago Love the look. I would have added a couple hooks to the vanity facing the wall so she could hang up her hairdryer and other gadgets. That would free up some space in the baskets. 11
  • @
@robindestasio75632 years ago It's beautiful :) Love the storage under the sink, I would have added an over the toilet storage unit as well instead of art. Never enough storage :) 13
  • @
@lexysmith65662 years ago This is the first renter friendly video I have seen that was good and actually be renter friendly. 1
  • @
@kimpaynter2 years ago Drew back in the day the 80’s hahah there was a hack for rentals they would dip a bed sheet in liquid starch then apply to the wall . Never tried it is just something I have remembered when peel and stick wallpaper came out ❤️we love you Drew 😊😊❤️❤️❤️ ... 14
  • @
@delanascott88902 years ago SOOOO TALENTED!! You can make anything so beautiful and affordable too! Your ideas and editing and creativity are amazing. Keep working hard. We love your content you put out and how it keeps getting better and better. So proud of you Drew. MOM ☺️ ... 23

@lindawynelllast month I wouldn’t change a thing you did! It’s perfect. Ingenious idea with the tape & paste wall paper. At first I thought the mirror should be framed but I changed my mind quickly. Love that vanity, the texture of the Roman shade, I’m actually glad you had to go with the 2nd light fixture. I think it adds a simple elegance to the space. Great job. 🎉 ...

@designedtothenines2 years ago Wow! I am so impressed. This was so clever! Especially the vanity. 💕 41

@jannibal92732 years ago Most of us have small and boring bathrooms, whether we're living in an apartment or a smaller and older home (not all of us live in McMansions), so this kind of inspiration is refreshing. Wondering if you painted behind the toilet tank. It's easy to reach in the back to paint if you remove the top of the tank and use a small roller on a short extension. Pet peeve: plain clear glass in bathroom windows. WHAT? That's not your fault of course, and the window does have the Roman shade on it, although it looks too thin to provide much opacity at night when the lights are on in the bathroom. Maybe guys don't think about that kind of thing as much. ... 34
  • @
@TheItGirl1132 years ago The vanity is such a good hack for home owners with a tight budget too! I hate pedestal sinks but vanities cost as much as the makeover to replace 😅 so thats a super nice option! 15
  • @
@formeremployee3268 months ago Add storage ABOVE the door. After the age of VHS tapes, I used a VHS over the door rack and added a ton of storage to a tiny bathroom. (It’s in my garage holding bike helmets, tool batteries, etc.) Shelf above the door. Shelves above the toilet. Real medicine cabinet for lots of storage. I can’t believe people have mirrors over the sink when they could have a ton of storage there. I put a medicine cabinet beside the mirror in one house. Looked nice. ...
  • @
@TheDriftwoodlover2 years ago Well done! I was appreciating the tile work — pretty uncommon in a rental. That shade looks fantastic. 1
  • @
@julieseifert85332 years ago That wallpaper idea with the tape is CRAZY! And genius. I love the vanity too. And renter friendly! So cool. 13
  • @
@SlodWick2 years ago Super cute! I would be interested in a follow-up if they ever move to see how easily that wallpaper is removed after some time in a small humid room. The only change I would make is perhaps finding a light fixture/towel hook/accessories that were the same color or material. ... 36
  • @
@marciavaldez77672 years ago Oh yeah!!! Beautiful. Love the wall treatment, blind, and light fixture most.
  • @

  • @
@sharoneasley2 years ago Wow! I didn’t think a sink like that could look good. You did a great job with that cabinet; it looks fantastic! The entire bathroom looks great. 7
  • @
@stacyadams7282 years ago I love the design of the under sink storage but why did you use OSB in a potentially wet environment? I think using traditional plywood would have been a much more durable option. 10
  • @
@amitasahasrabudhe64132 years ago Drew, what an amazing talent you have, really transform any space you touch, stay blessed.

@Go4thIn20232 years ago You are so clever to find lovely, renter-friendly options without compromising the end results! It turned out great and has given me some options to use in my own rental. Thanks Drew! 1

  • @
@jadeh26992 years ago I would screw a back-board behind that top shelf and hide the sink and pipes completely. This was a super idea! Room is great!
  • @
@JulyMoon822 years ago Loving that vanity for the pedestal sink!
  • @
@pceofcake2 years ago Omg I wanted to do the faux beadboard in my apartment but gave up on the idea bc I couldn’t find a decent paper for it but now I want to revisit the idea! Great work 👏 9
  • @
@kenziemariluchreid22112 years ago Yess!! I need more of these truly renter friendly options. So often painting / adding a lot of holes to the walls / wallpaper not allowed. This gives me hope that I can make my apartment beautiful!! 6
  • @
@cathrynkolkman18112 years ago Looks beautiful and airy, love the Roman shade too☀️
  • @
@alessandraforlani1522 years ago Drew, you are simply amazing and gifted. Your mind must be constantly working with ideas and redos. Beautiful job.
  • @
@lda7512 years ago Wow I find it so crazy that landlords are aloud to forbid that kind of stuff. I work for a housing company in Germany and never in a million years would we be aloud to forbid the tenants to paint their walls or add wallpaper..
but given the circumstances, I absolutely love the outcome of the makeover! There’s never a design or diy I don’t like ✨ love your work!

@dianaduncan48002 years ago That vanity is so smart! “Back in the old days” we used to sew a skirt to fit around those sinks to hide storage behind, but your brilliant idea is so much more attractive. Also, for folks who don’t have saws, many places that sell wood will cut your pieces to size for you. ... 5

@Armandodiy2 years ago this is everything drew, love the “drama” killed it again. about to move into a big boy apartment and this gave me so many ideas! 7
  • @
@ronishaw21632 years ago Scares me for the long run with that under sink shelving being on the floor. That wood will expand when wet and with it being in the bathroom right by the shower that’s inevitable. I always love the final products of your room renos but wanted to share that bit! ... 5
  • @
@MzKinkyCurl2 years ago The Roman shade, removable faux bead board and the vanity unit?!?!🤯🤯🤯🤯MIND BLOWING!!! I’d love to recreate the shelf, but add doors!

  • @
@laner.8452 years ago tiiiiny bathroom... FOUR LIGHT SWITCHES!
Also a procrastinator who left painter's tape on the walls for two years during a stalled reno because I was too lazy to remove and retape... I strongly suggest NOT leaving painter's tape on the wall more than a few weeks. This might be a nightmare to remove. I'm sure there's some sort of exceptionally high end tape that someone here is going to comment and say, "Nuh, uh, it's fine, I did it before." Just a warning that it might not be as renter-friendly as you think if you have the same experience as me. And since it's in a very moist environment, thinking it's less likely to come off as easy as a dry environment. We had less issue in the back bedroom than our own bathroom getting it off the walls. ...

@meMYSELFnUlast year I learn so much from these videos. Like attaching trim with velcro or the heat-activated edging - I need these but never knew they existed!!
