Custom feeding allows the calf owner to pay someone else to feed their calves because they don't have the facilities, time, or expertise to feed cattle. At the same time, custom feeding allows the feedlot operator to use feed, facilities, and labor without large investments in cattle.
In this presentation, OSU Extension Beef Specialist Steve Boyles details why and how cattle owners might take full advantage of favorable market situations or the improved genetics they have developed in their cow-calf operation by retaining ownership into the feedlot.
