WE ARE OCEAN Wadden Sea Netherlands The Beauty of Proximity (Sophia Bulgakova)

This short video documents the process and implementation of the WE ARE OCEAN Wadden Netherlands project: The Beauty of Proximity by the artist Sophia Bulgakova. The project was curated by Anastasia Loginova as a commission by ARTPORT_making waves for the trilateral WE ARE OCEAN Wadden Sea project which links Germany with The Netherlands and Denmark. The video was produced by Batuhan Keskiner and Emily Oxenaar (NL). WORKSHOPS: General summary of workshops Throughout the period of April and June 2022, a series of art-science workshops were held in collaboration with two secondary schools bordering the Wadden Sea; Inspecteur Boelensschool in Schiermonnikoog, province Vriesland and Het Hogeland College in Uithuizen, Groningen. The overall aim of these workshops was to raise awareness among young adults about the interdependence of human society and the ocean. Specifically, each workshop consisted of activities which combined scientific information and artistic exploration to engage students, age 12-16, in re-examining their knowledge of and relationship with the Wadden Sea. The workshops were conducted in two parts: part I in April 2022, part II in June 2022. The workshops were co-led by a science communicator and an artist. A short film was made of the events.
