Can you believe it takes around 150 flowers to yield just one gram of saffron? That's why saffron is so rare and valuable!
Imagine this: for a kilo of saffron, about 1.5 lakh flowers need to be harvested. That's a stark contrast to other common spices like cumin, which can be produced in much larger quantities from the same land area.
But wait, there's more to it! Saffron blooms for only a brief period of 2-3 weeks in October and November. If the weather turns unfavourable, the entire year's effort goes to waste.
Due to these unique characteristics, saffron is a highly sought-after spice, and its limited production leads to its high price. It's a treasure that adds not only colour but also an exquisite flavour to various cuisines and dishes.
