Sea snakes, especially the Dubois sea snake, are highly venomous. They inhabit the seas of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia. The toxicity of their venom is high due to their diet, which includes fish. The venom attacks the respiratory center, causing suffocation and paralysis of the lungs. Sea snakes live at shallow depths but still need to surface to obtain oxygen. They are also capable of absorbing oxygen from the water through the mucous membrane in their mouths, allowing them to stay underwater for up to two hours. Due to their habitat in shallow waters, bathers often become victims of sea snakes. The Dubois snake is not aggressive, but it is difficult to spot underwater, and a person can accidentally step on it and receive a dose of venom. Despite the fact that the venom of the Dubois sea snake ranks third in terms of toxicity, it is administered in small doses, so the mortality rate from its attacks is low.
