Beta oxidation overview: Fatty acid oxidation: Part 5. I'm Dr. Vijaya Marakala, In this video, I have explained an overview of beta oxidation which takes place in the mitochondrial matrix. I have taken palmitoyl-CoA as an example to explain an overview of beta-oxidation. Palmitic acid is a saturated fatty acid with 16 carbon atoms. Totally there is going to be 8 acetyl-CoA during oxidation of palmitoyl-CoA and meanwhile formation of 7 NADH and 7FADH2. Beta oxidation is the successive removal of 2 carbon units as acetyl-CoA at a time.
