Putin gave his address on state television and, whilst thanking all those that opposed the mutiny, also thanked President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus for mediating with Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin to call off the armed group’s advance on Moscow. Putin also offered amnesty to the remaining soldiers as he stated that all attempts to sow chaos in Russia were destined to fail. Although the mutiny was brief, it was not bloodless. At least 15 people were killed when several military helicopters and a communications plane were shot down, and these were reportedly killed by Wagner forces.
